Sally Shi completed her undergraduate degree at Cornell University in materials science and engineering (May 2013). During her time at Cornell, she worked at Olin library, was an Upward Bound tutor, and did a co-op at Primet Precision Materials, a nanotechnology start-up based in Ithaca.

In addition to her materials science coursework, Sally wanted to explore her interests further by taking courses in other departments, and soon found a knack for data analysis. Her co-op experience affirmed this when one of her major projects required her to use her analytical and problem-solving skills extensively. As a result, she decided to pursue the ORIE Masters of Engineering Program to prepare herself for a career in data analytics, consulting, or any other problem-solving based field.

Sally’s work experience and project-based coursework have helped her develop her ability to communicate clearly and effectively to individuals of all ages, and to solve problems with little information given both independently and collaboratively. As a result, she feels confident in her ability to transition from academia to industry upon graduation.

In her free time, Sally enjoys hiking, rock climbing, badminton, tennis, and doing any activities with good friends.
