Wang Liao received her Bachelor of Science degree in Quantitative Finance with First Class Honors in 2010 from National University of Singapore, fully sponsored by undergraduate scholarship. Her undergraduate study equipped her with a solid foundation in mathematical finance. In her Honors Year Thesis she modified a pricing model and its numerical implementation, developed in earlier literature, for adjustable-rate mortgages.

In the summer of 2008, Wang Liao interned in the stock exchange hall counter of Everbright Securities Company in Sichuan, where she assisted retail investors through the operational processes for financial services. In the following summer, she interned in the global banking department of HSBC Chengdu Branch and was involved in providing banking service to institutional customers.

Although having completed a rigorous coursework in quantitative finance, Liao desired to obtain further knowledge in this discipline with more quantitative depth and, most importantly, more focus on real applications. Therefore she selected the Cornell Financial Engineering program that will allow her to complete the applied engineering project.

While pursuing her master’s degree, Wang Liao is an analyst in Hilltop Capital at Cornell. And, in her spare time, Liao enjoys table tennis and the game of go.
