Andrew Yap joined the Master of Engineering program in Operations Research and Information Engineering at Cornell University in August 2013. He holds a B.S. in industrial engineering from the University of the Philippines – Diliman with summa cum laude honors.

Before joining the M.Eng. program, Andrew worked at the Manila Electric Company as a strategy and corporate development intern. He won the Best Live Case Award for his call center capacity analysis project, which determined key performance issues in the call center and proposed an initiative to monetize spare capacity. He also conducted a diagnostic study on the company’s contracted services expenditures by determining priority accounts for cost-cutting initiatives.

Andrew also joined the 5th Industrial Engineering Competition in Bandung, Indonesia. His team won first place for conducting a study on an airport terminal and proposing solutions to the passenger congestion problem.

These experiences have prepared Andrew for consulting jobs by developing his analytical skills, client-facing communication, and teamwork. He is interested in operations consulting, where he can use data analysis and simulation to help clients make better decisions.

Andrew is an e-Sports enthusiast, especially for DOTA 2, a team-based strategy game. He enjoys playing basketball, the piano, and the drums.
