Tianshan Gong graduated with general honors in 2013 from the University of Chicago where he received his bachelor’s degrees in applied mathematics and economics. As an undergraduate, he interned at Guotai Asset Management and SWS MU Fund Management gaining experience in both equity research and financial modeling.

At Guotai Asset Management’s international department, Tianshan gained exposure to the equity market of both Hong Kong and the U.S. and honed his skills as an analyst. At SWS MU Fund Management, he compared performances of tranching models using historical index data and contributed to the development of a new ETF fund.

During the summer break before his senior year, Tianshan joined a team of graduate students and participated in a national level research project in China. Working under distinguished professors, he applied his mathematical skills to investigating the potential use of variants of fractional Brownian motion in structural risk models to better model the market conditions in China.

Tianshan joined the Master of Engineering program in fall of 2013. At Cornell, Tianshan hopes to further develop his analytical skills and apply his technical background to quantitative finance.

In his spare time, Tianshan enjoys poker, jazz music and playing electric guitar.
