We prepare a project slate for our students. In other words, the faculty have contacts in industry, we work with those folks, and we present a slate of projects to the students with the sponsors. And then the students rank the projects according to their preferences.

From a technical standpoint, I was able to learn a lot of new skills. Also from a professional and from a soft skills standpoint, I was able to learn a lot of things about how corporate world works and how real projects and real companies actually pan out.

They're doing the real thing. And they can talk about that experience and the initial steps that they're doing and thinking about what kinds of skills they can bring to a company. This is someone who's understood the fact that you get data—it's ugly, it's messy, it doesn't come in the way you want, and your job first if you're gonna actually use it is take it and make it into something that actually is usable.

This project allows me as a student to develop my domain knowledge very early on, even before I enter the workplace. I really become a subject matter expertise because of this project.
