The ORIE student chapter of INFORMS announced the selection of Professor Paat Rusmevichientong and Ph.D. student Tia Sondjaja as outstanding teachers, and recognized two active INFORMS members at a recent late afternoon banquet.
The student chapter of INFORMS (the Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences) organized a "banquet" to recognize outstanding teaching as well as active participation in their organization.
Akansha Gawade, right, presented Tia Sondjaja with the outstanding teaching assistant award.
Following snacks and drinks, INFORMS chapter President Akansha Gawade announced awards to two active chapter members and two outstanding teachers. Undergraduate and M.Eng. students elected Ph.D. student Tia Sondjaja as the Outstanding Teaching Assistant of the Year. In giving the award plaque to Sondjaja, Gawade quoted students as lauding Sondjaja's great attitude and patience. "[She] shows patience I didn't even know was possible," one said. Another commented that she is "always smiling."
Professor Paat Rusmevichientong, was elected Outstanding Professor of the Year. One student said "I have never met a professor as dedicated as [him]." Another said that "he has made a huge impact on my academic career." Rusmevichientong, who is the chapter advisor, was unable to attend the ceremony.
In addition to the announcement of teaching awards, students who have been especially active in INFORMS were recognized. Lewis King received a certificate as the most active member, and Lauren Hamme as the most active INFORMS subcommittee chairperson. Lauren headed the social committee of the chapter.
