John Callister MS '92, PhD '96, the Harvey Kinzelberg Director of Entrepreneurship in Engineering, is featured in a profile in eship, The Magazine of Entrepreneurship@Cornell.
John Callister, a member of the faculty of both ORIE and Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, is the subject of an article in the spring 2008 of eship magazine. As the article notes, he teaches an entrepreneurship course (ORIE 4152, formerly 452) to juniors and seniors, as well as financial and managerial accounting (ORIE 3150, formerly 350) and economic analysis of engineering systems (ORIE 4150, formerly 451) to engineering students. He also advises the Cornell Entrepreneur Organization (CEO) and is co-advisor for the Cornell team in the Automotive X Prize competition. He also is responsible for the Manufacturing Minor offered to Master of Engineering students.
In 1999 Callister, a senior lecturer, was named director of the Kinzelberg Enterprise Engineering program, which was endowed by Harvey Kinzelberg, ORIE '67. This year he received an award from the Louis H. Zalaznick Teaching Assistantship program, established by current Cornell Trustee David W. Zalaznick '76 and his wife Barbara '76. The awards allow faculty affiliated with Entrepreneurship@Cornell to extend their capacity to work wtih students by providing teaching assistants to help with courses and/or course development.
Entrepreneurship@Cornell is a program that ties together and highlights education in entrepreneurship across the Cornell campus, including nine colleges and three centers. Callister leads the program within the College of Engineering, with other engineering faculty involved in the activity. In addition to Kinzelberg, the Advisory Council for Entrepreneurship@Cornell includes Michael Kubin ORIE '71 and Jeffrey P. Parker, ORIE BS '65, M.Eng. '66, MBA '70.
