Weiye Ren graduated from University of British Columbia with combined honors in Mathematics and Statistics and minor in Economics. His quantitative background granted him an in-depth understanding of mathematical theories.

During the summer of 2014, Weiye worked as a student researcher and conducted an industrial research for FPInnovations. He developed a sample comparison model that inferred two samples’ distributions and transformed data of one sample to the other proportional to their distributions using regression and non-parametric methods. He also verified sample comparison models with bootstrap simulations using R with real industrial data. In addition, he built a web interface to visualize data analysis results using R Packages Shiny and ggplot2. With the help of Prof. James Zidek, Weiye’s final report was used in FPInnovation’s presentation to the Canadian Lumber Committee.

With a strong quantitative background and excellent communication skills, Weiye is eager to pursue a career in Sales & Trading, Quantitative Research or Risk Management upon graduation.

In his spare time, Weiye enjoys volunteer work. He has participated in multiple volunteering organizations and student-run clubs. Weiye is also a skilled dancer specializing in popping style.
