Biography

Anticipated Graduation Date: December 2011

Tianran Chen received his bachelor of arts degree in Financial Mathematics from University of Virginia in May 2010. Motivated by his genuine interest in pursuing a career in finance he applied to the Financial Engineering Program at Cornell University in fall 2010.

When he was an undergraduate student, he worked as a language assistant for two years by teaching a one-credit course in Chinese. He also served as the president of Virginia Club Badminton. At Cornell, he is currently on the Master of Engineering Student Leadership Committee.

Before coming to Cornell, he had some industrial exposure by doing summer internships in a commercial bank in China and in a private equity firm in New York, N.Y. During his most recent internship in private equity, he cooperated with his colleagues in two company research projects focused on prospective investments.

Tianran has enjoyed both teamwork and leadership in all of the activities and he also likes to work in a fast-paced and highly-pressured environment. He looks forward to using his quantitative as well as interpersonal skills to analyze and solve problems waiting in the future.
