Ruisi Qi received her bachelor’s degree in Quantitative Finance with first-class honors from City University of Hong Kong in 2015. Through her interdisciplinary undergraduate study, she accumulated both strong business knowledge and quantitative abilities.

In summer 2016, Ruisi worked with the XTF research team, a global leader dedicated to ETF research, under London Stock Exchange Group. During her internship, she provided comprehensive technical, fundamental and statistical research of globally traded ETFs. She constructed algorithms in R and SQL to calculate yield to maturity, duration and convexities for more than 70,000 fixed income ETF component bonds and analyzed financial ratios for around 3,000 ETFs. Meanwhile, she helped in daily updates to the database with fundamental calculations and inception/inactive information. The process of aggregating data from financial data providers including Bloomberg and Thomson Reuters Eikon has equipped Ruisi with the ability to work in various platforms and deal with data incoherence.

Prior to joining Cornell, Ruisi worked for Nomura Holdings in Hong Kong as a summer intern, during which she had extensive exposure to the trading floor and research division. She was in charge of a research project on the Shanghai-Hong Kong Stock Connect. Her research covered trading pattern differences, the QFII/RQFII programs and projected market impact. She presented to the entire trading floor in order to prepare her colleagues for intelligent business conversations. She also independently created an Excel spreadsheet with VBA to provide technical analysis indicators and long/short ideas. This was used daily by traders to support their pitch to clients.

Upon completion of the Financial Engineering program, she hopes to work in Equity Research, Sales & Trading or similar fields where she can leverage her interests and skills.

In her spare time, Ruisi enjoys Broadway and traditional Chinese opera. She was also a registered volunteer in Hong Kong and is currently seeking similar volunteer opportunities in New York City.
