Andres is originally from Bogotá, Colombia where he majored in Computer Science and Industrial Engineering with a concentration in finance at Los Andes University. Due to his academic performance, he became a research assistant, where he taught Optimization, Finance and Financial Risk Management, while pursuing a Master’s of Science in Operations Research and Statistics, of which he received a full tuition scholarship. He later joined CFEM to acquire further knowledge in quantitative and computational tools in finance.

Early in his academic career, he developed an interest in learning about investment decisions and valuation methodologies. He decide to pursue his passion for finance by taking part in national investment competitions, and work in both public and private sector companies as part of a financial consulting team composed of faculty and fellow assistants from Los Andes University. There, he advised organizations from diverse sectors, such as energy, mining, internet services and the ministry of information technology.

In the summer of 2016, he joined Morgan Stanley as a quantitative summer analyst in the model validation team for the Securitized Products and Global Wealth Management groups, where he had the chance to apply and acquire broader knowledge in valuation model analysis and implementation, improve his programming skills, and understand the process of building fundamentally robust valuation tools.

Outside of academia and professional work, he has belonged to multiple extracurricular groups. He was elected as the Computer Science Student Representative at the Student Council, where he promoted campaigns focused on student wellness.

Andres is looking for a challenging environment where he can apply his quantitative skillset and knowledge, with the aim of aiding in the investment decision process for a company and its clients.
