Leila Heckman, Ph.D.
Dr. Leila Heckman is a highly regarded investment manager and global strategist with twenty-five years of experience. She and her team manage global portfolios for premier domestic and international institutional clients, high-net-worth individuals, pension funds, and foundations. In addition, she leads a research advisory business with proprietary interactive software models and publications for global markets, emerging markets, and frontier markets.
Dr. Heckman is currently Head of the International Equity Team for The Roosevelt Investment Group. She joined the firm in January 2012 from Mesirow Financial. Previous to Mesirow Financial, she led the International Equity team at Bear Stearns Asset Management and developed a highly profitable investment management business with premier clients. Dr. Heckman was the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Heckman Global Advisors, an independent research company which was purchased by Bear Stearns in 2005. Between 1992 and 2003, she was Senior Managing Director of Global Asset Allocation at Citigroup Smith Barney, where she built a preeminent team that was ranked #1 or #2 by Institutional Investor’s annual global poll for four years in a row. During her career, Dr. Heckman also served as Vice President of International Equity at Alliance Bernstein, where she developed sophisticated strategic asset allocation models. She spent the early part of her career at Citigroup as Head of Credit Policy for their largest profit center, managing a department of 30.
She has been a member of NYU/Polytechnic University’s Board of Trustees for 15 years (and has been Chair of the Investment Committee) and is on the investment committees for the International Rescue Committee and The Fieldston School. She is also a member of the Council of Foreign Relations. Dr. Heckman has a B.A. from Brown, a M.S. in Operations Research from Cornell, and a Ph.D. from NYU Polytechnic.
She resides in New York City with her husband and has two grown daughters.
