Bio

Dr. Leila Heckman is a highly regarded investment manager and global strategist with twenty-five years of experience.  She and her team manage international portfolios for premier domestic and international institutional clients and high-net-worth individuals.  In addition, she leads an independent research advisory business.

Dr. Heckman is currently Head of the International Equity Team for Lebenthal.  She and her team joined the firm in February 2014.  Previous to Lebenthal, she led the International Equity teams at Roosevelt, Mesirow Financial, and Bear Stearns Asset Management.  Dr. Heckman was the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Heckman Global Advisors, an independent research company which was purchased by Bear Stearns in 2005.  Between 1993 and 2003, she was Senior Managing Director of Global Asset Allocation at Citigroup Smith Barney, where she built a preeminent team that was ranked #1 or #2 by Institutional Investor’s annual global poll for four years in a row.  She also served as a voting member of the Investment Policy Committee and Asset Allocation Committee of Salomon Smith Barney.  During her career, Dr. Heckman also was Vice President at Alliance Bernstein, where she developed sophisticated strategic asset allocation models.

She has been on the Sun Life Financial U.S. Board for 9 years. She has been a member of NYU/Polytechnic University’s Board of Trustees for 15 years (and has been Chair of the Investment Committee) and is on the investment committee for the International Rescue Committee (IRC). She also serves on the Advisory Committee for Cornell University’s Financial Engineering Program.  She is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations.  Dr. Heckman has a BA from Brown, a MS in Operations Research from Cornell, and a PhD from NYU Polytechnic.

 

She resides in New York City with her husband and two daughters.
