Adrian Lewis Wins Inaugural Lagrange Prize

Professor Adrian Lewis received the first Lagrange Prize in Continuous Optimization from the Mathematical Progamming Society (MPS) and the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIAM) for his paper, "Nonsmooth analysis of eigenvalues (Mathematical Programming 84 (1999), pp 1-24.

The prize, established in 2002, is awarded jointly by these organizations and is bestowed every three years.  The Lagrange Prize is given for outstanding work in the area of continuous optimization and is based on mathematical quality, significance, originality, clarity, expository excellence and the work's value in practical applications.
