Cornell Operations Research Manhattan Programs

Cornell Financial Engineering Manhattan (CFEM)

Global capital markets are increasingly competitive and traditional products have become unprofitable commodities. This trend has sparked a race to create new financial products of increasing complexity. Cornell’s financial engineering program in Ithaca, in the School of Operations Research and Information Engineering,  focuses the strong math and engineering skills of our students on the challenges of creating and managing the financial instruments for the future. CFEM provides opportunities for our students and faculty to connect directly with Wall Street. Our programs in NYC include:

  • Financial Engineering Manhattan academic programs, projects and research
  • Quantitative Finance Seminar Series Cornell Financial Engineering
  • Executive Training Program
  • Wall Street Outreach Programs for Cornell Master of Engineering FE students

Public Health Logistics

One of the critical challenges we face in public health is to deliver needed resources and services over “the last mile” – from emergency preparedness and response at home to reducing the spread of aids in resource-constrained environments abroad. Addressing these needs requires the integration of logistics and supply-chain engineering honed in Ithaca with public health expertise driven by Weill Cornell in New York City. In addition to combining engineering and public health in cross-disciplinary research, the goals of Cornell Operations Research Manhattan include integration of logistics models into large-scale preparedness and health care delivery solutions. It is this practical aspect of our work that is based in Manhattan near ground zero, and which requires collaboration between end-users, academia, industry and government. To achieve our goals we have launched a series of programs and initiatives including:

  • Institute for Disease and Disaster Preparedness with the School of Operations Research & Information Engineering and Weill Cornell Medical College
  • Public health planning and logistics modeling with the Clinton Foundation
  • Emergency planning and response research and development with corporate sponsors including Lockheed Martin and Intel Corporation

We also plan to launch a series of academic courses designed to teach this new and emerging field of Public Health Logistics.
