Cheryl Yeoh ’05 knew very little about ORIE when she first entered Cornell with interest in the Chemical Engineering major; but as she learned more about the program, she found herself gravitating toward it. “It is very well-rounded; it combines the in-depth technical and mathematical classes with softer, more managerial courses,” Yeoh explains. “I get to take classes from the School of Industrial and Labor Relations, the Johnson Graduate School of Management, the School of Hotel Administration, and the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences to satisfy my ORIE requirements. I like the fact that ORIE incorporates business courses like accounting, entrepreneurship, finance, and organizational behavior, because eventually I want to go into business.” She plans to begin her career in the consulting or financial field before pursuing an M.B.A. and starting a business of her own.

Yeoh admires the ORIE faculty, calling them “simply amazing” with “a genuine passion for teaching. They are very approachable and enjoy getting to know their students on a personal basis.”

She also points out, “Cornell OR graduates are highly regarded in the work field; a lot of graduates find really high-paying jobs with big financial companies on the East Coast because the OR program at Cornell is one of the best in the States. From a larger perspective, the Cornell campus itself has a very diverse student body, offers limitless opportunities to partake in various activities, and has a great career services center.”
