Degree Requirements
Master of Engineering Degree Requirements in ORIE
The requirements for a Master of Engineering degree in Operations Research and Information Engineering are:
- A minimum of 30 credit hours of approved technical coursework, all taken for a letter grade, with the exception of the required colloquia, while enrolled in the M.Eng. program.
- A minimum of 19 letter-graded credit hours in approved technical engineering coursework.
- A minimum of 12 letter-graded credit hours in approved School of ORIE coursework.
- An engineering design project for 5 to 8 credits, depending on the student’s concentration, resulting in a final presentation and written report.
- An approved program of courses as outlined in the M.Eng Student Handbook, satisfying the student’s concentration requirements. Each student is responsible for submitting a study plan of courses approved by their advisor.
- A minimum cumulative M.Eng GPA of 2.5.
- No grade below a C- in all courses that are required in order to satisfy the student’s concentration and degree requirements.
- Students must take the following courses unless they have already taken equivalent courses as an undergraduate:
Case Studies (ORIE 5110)
Operations Research I: Optimization I (ORIE 5300)
Topics in Linear Optimization (ORIE 5311), or Optimization II (ORIE 5310), or Optimization Modeling (ORIE 4300)
Engineering Probability and Statistics II (ORIE 5500)
Simulation Modeling and Analysis (ORIE 5580)
(replaced with Monte Carlo Simulation (ORIE 5581) and Monte Carlo Methods in FE (ORIE 5582) for Financial Engineering students)
Operations Research II: Introduction to Stochastic Processes I (ORIE 5510).
